Office of Research Operations
The Office of Research Operations, a sub team within the Office of the Associate Vice President for Research Operations and Infrastructure, provides strategic and practical support to Georgia Tech's research community.
Major areas of responsibility, and primary and secondary points of contact, are highlighted below.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Cost Share & Institutional Support
Cost Share is a documented, reported institutional contribution to a sponsored project. Institutional Support, by contrast, also aids research but is only tracked internally, not reported to the sponsor.
Primary Contact: Linda Mazzeo
Secondary Contact: Gail Spatt
F&A Waivers
Indirect costs for university research, also known as Facilities and Administrative (F&A), or overhead costs, are expenses that support the overall research infrastructure but are not directly attributable to specific research projects. Any requests for unusual or reduced rates require an approved waiver.
Primary Contact: Linda Mazzeo
Secondary Contact: Gail Spatt
Limited Submission Competitions
These funding opportunities restrict the number of applications an institution can submit. Exceeding the limit may disqualify all submissions, so an internal selection process is often required to determine which proposals move forward representing Georgia Tech.
Primary Contact: Coryn Shiflet,
Secondary Contacts: Krystal McNally, Susan Roche
Manufacturing USA
As a national leader in manufacturing research and development, Georgia Tech belongs to several Manufacturing USA Institutes. Our work with these institutes brings government, academia, and industry together to drive manufacturing innovations forward.
Primary Contact: Tyler Gammon
Secondary Contact: Gail Spatt
Organizational Conflict of Interest
An Organizational Conflict of Interest (OCI) arises when an institution’s relationships or activities may prevent it from providing impartial advice or performing work objectively or create an unfair competitive advantage. Unlike personal conflicts, OCIs stem from the institution’s broader engagements, not individual actions.
Primary Contact: Susan Roche
Secondary Contact: Coryn Shiflet
Research Bulletin
The bi-weekly Research Bulletin is produced by the Office of the Chief Research Operations Officer and includes limited submission competition announcements, research-related guidance and programs, and select funding opportunities.
Primary Contact: Coryn Shiflet
Secondary Contact: Linda Mazzeo
