Information For Students

The Renewable Bioproducts Institute at Georgia Tech offers top students an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research to advance technologies and applications in the bioeconomy, advised by world-recognized experts and supported by four-year graduate research fellowships.

The revolution of the industry to expand into bioproducts has the unlimited potential to create new jobs and move our nation towards a more sustainable economy by focusing on the production of biochemicals and biofuels, biomaterials and their applications, and other products made from renewable resources as well as on the efficiency of pulp and paper production.

In 2014, the Georgia Institute of Technology received a major grant from the Institute of Paper Chemistry Foundation (IPCF). One of the largest gifts in Georgia Tech’s history, it affirmed the Institute’s position as the leading driver in the forest bioproducts arena. RBI has one of the nation’s oldest continuously operating programs in Paper Science & Engineering.

Each year, the RBI Endowment offers fellowships to eligible students through faculty who have applied for and been awarded funding.  The Endowment supports these students each year in their faculty-directed research.

We emphasize fundamental engineering science and engineering skills in the bioprocessing, biomaterials, and biochemistry industries, with specialization in the pulp, paper and allied industries.
